SUMMER MATH

For students entering Grades 1 through 6

Your Dreambox account will be active all summer -- hooray!  To keep up with your math skills, you are asked to work on Dreambox for a total of five hours (for those going into grades 1-4) and ten hours (for those going into grade 6) over the course of the summer.  Your teacher and parents will be able to check on your progress.  If you put in more than the minimum time, you will receive bonus points.

Parents, remember NOT to assist with Dreambox work, so that the computer program can accurately provide support and reinforcement if your child is struggling.  If you have technical difficulties, please call Mrs. Malone over the summer.

To get to Dreambox, go to the school web site, click “For Our Families,” then look for the Dreambox link.

Special note for students entering 3rd grade

All students are to study and practice basic addition and subtraction facts.  Students will be expected to know these facts quickly and correctly at the start of the year.  Addition and subtraction flash cards are a great way to study. These flash cards can even be purchased at the dollar store!

For students entering Grades 7 and 8

Like last year, we are requiring students to purchase and complete the Summer Skills Math Sharpener Book.  These books must be purchased by families.   They can be purchased online at www.summerskills.net, or by calling 1-800-411-8186. The cost is $20.

Important notes for 7th and 8th grades:

  • 1.  Purchase the book for the grade you have just completed.  For example, if you are entering Seventh Grade, you should purchase the Sixth Grade book.
  • 2.  If there is a topic you didn’t learn, skip that question and write the word “Skipped” next to it.
  • 3.  Show all work for your computation either in the booklet or neatly labeled and written on looseleaf stapled into the booklet
  • 4.  You should correct your own work using the answer key in the back of the book.
  • 5.  Students will receive a grade for completing and self-correcting the booklet.  It is due no later than Friday, August 30.
